Introduction
If you’re looking to buy the fastest JDM car possible, then you’ve come to the right place! We know what JDM enthusiasts are looking for when they look to purchase the fastest JDM car available, and we have gathered together ten of the best JDM cars in existence on our list of the top 10 fastest JDM cars. All that’s left is to choose your favorite and hit the Add to Cart button!
1) 2000 Honda S2000 - 160.5 mph
Looking for proof that a small car can still be fast? How about a little Honda S2000 with a 2.0-liter, 240 horsepower four-cylinder engine? While not exactly what you would consider huge by muscle car standards, it is impressive to see how much speed can be wrung out of an engine so small. All that power is backed up by an advanced six-speed manual transmission and something Honda calls VTEC which help you handle curves with ease.
The 2000 model has a top speed of 160.5 mph and gets 28 mpg on average. This model is less sporty than later models, but it more than makes up for its smallness with performance prowess. This isn't just one of the fastest JDM cars - it's one of the fastest cars period. (Top Speed) 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR Edition - 161.1 mph:

When you look at some of the numbers involved in racing these days, they seem almost unreal. For example, what do you think when someone tells you that there is a car that goes from 0 to 60 in 3 seconds? It sounds impossible doesn't it? But here we have a supercar called Evo 8 MR Edition capable of reaching such speeds.
With a 4G63T turbocharged DOHC inline-4 engine under its hood, it can reach 434 hp @ 6500 rpm. The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes only 5.9 seconds! (Top Speed) 1998 Nissan Skyline GT-R Vspec II - 162 mph: From Japan comes another powerful beast – Skyline GT-R Vspec II.
Its RB26DETT twin turbocharged inline 6 cylinder engine delivers 276 hp @ 6400 rpm and 315 lb ft of torque @ 4000 rpm. With all that power under your control, you will need a sophisticated all wheel drive system to keep you safe on twisty roads or during high speed driving through snowy mountains or rain soaked city streets.
2) 2002 Honda Integra Type R - 157.4 mph
Every fast car needs a transmission, so it’s no surprise that Honda didn’t skimp on equipping their 2002 Integra Type R with a six-speed manual. This is arguably one of the best JDM cars ever made. As its name would suggest, it was designed to be an entry-level performance car.
It featured 190 horsepower and ran from 0 to 60 in 6.8 seconds on its way to hitting 160 mph. The acceleration was astonishing for an everyday street car—and it still is today! Of course, Honda couldn’t get away with giving their baby Type R such power without making sure that it had exceptional handling and stopping power as well.
That’s why they included stiffer suspension and larger brakes than what you could find on your average sedan. To make sure that these features were up to snuff, they tested them all extensively at Germany's Nürburgring racetrack.
There's a reason why every time you see a picture of someone driving their Integra R at high speeds around corners, they're smiling like crazy: They know how great it feels! In fact, if you've never driven a Type R before, we highly recommend doing so. You'll quickly understand why they come at such a premium price tag.
3) 1996 Mitsubishi GTO - 155.0 mph
The Mitsubishi GTO holds a special place in Japan’s racing history. The standard version, known as the Mirage and produced between 1982 and 2003, was one of Japan’s first genuinely affordable sports cars. The GTO (or GTO for short) was an attempt to provide that kind of excitement to a worldwide audience, with a more powerful engine than its predecessor and styling based on Mitsubishi’s legendary performance sedans.
While it never came close to matching up with Europe's best, it could still reach 155 mph — not bad for something closer in size to a Ford Focus than a BMW M3. If you have ever wondered what JDM is all about, here is your answer.
Here are ten fastest JDM cars from over seas! 1996 Toyota Supra - 154.0 mph: Like other modern Japanese cars, Toyota's Supra has undergone many changes since its introduction in 1978 as a two-door model of their Celica coupe.
It eventually became bigger and faster over time, until it received major changes including twin turbochargers which helped push top speed to 154 mph—not quite Ferrari territory but far above most domestic competition at the time.
Unfortunately for Toyota fans, high demand pushed prices beyond $40k when new; today they trade hands well below half that amount but still bring in premium money thanks to their rarity on American roads.
4) 1992 Toyota Supra Turbo - 150.6 mph
The Supra's turbocharged 2JZ-GTE engine produced 245 horsepower and 315 pound-feet of torque. The Supra was light for its time, weighing only 3,195 pounds. And with a curb weight of 2,850 pounds and six gears to get that power to the ground, it'll easily outrun anything in its class. With modern advancements in tire technology and aerodynamics, there's no reason why a Toyota Supra or Subaru WRX couldn't get into the 180s today—if not higher.
1992 Nissan Skyline GT-R - 150.4 mph: Just like in America, Japanese police cars were mandated by law to be fitted with speed limiters—but that didn't stop some from getting their hands on more powerful models like the GT-R. Its RB26DETT twin-turbo straight six produced 276 hp and 286 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,600 rpm (which means peak power is available way lower than 6,000 rpm). It was lighter than most other supercars at around 2,900 pounds.
5) 2004 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec II (R34) - 150.3 mph
Launched in 1998, Honda’s Prelude Type SH was a supercharged beast. With a time of 14.779 seconds and a top speed of 147.8 mph, it was easily on pace with many Italian supercars (but cheaper to buy) back when it was released.
It has since been discontinued, but if you’re looking for one of these cars used, they can be bought online at low prices. In fact, you can even buy one that still runs today; $3000 should get you a pre-owned model in great condition.
If you want to go faster than 150 miles per hour, though, you might have to shell out more cash—the record is held by a modified version of the Prelude Type S which hit 174.2 mph!
6) 1994 Nissan 240SX (S14) - 148.9 mph
This 240SX is a heavily modified drag car. Its LS1 V8 engine puts out 850 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 748 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm. It has a 9-inch Ford rear end with 3.70 gears and it weighs 1,725 pounds without driver.
The 240SX makes great use of aerodynamics, with downforce from front splitter and rear wing helping keep it stuck to the ground during hard launches. With that said, its quarter mile time isn’t all that impressive when compared to other cars on our list.
In fact, it’s only good enough for seventh place on our list of fastest JDM cars. That being said, we’re sure you’ll agree that an eighth-of-a second difference between first and seventh place isn’t all that significant.
The Nissan S14 Silvia (sold as either a 180SX or 200SX in North America) was produced from 1989 through 1998.
7) 1998 Honda Prelude Type SH - 147.8 mph
The Honda Prelude Type SH is a Japanese version of Honda's second-generation Prelude. A limited edition, high-performance model, it was powered by a 2.2 L F22B4 i-VTEC engine with 6 speed manual transmission and was only available in Japan through special order at select Honda dealerships.
It features a high tech interior with all new gauges, bucket seats and adjustable lumbar support. The exterior includes 17 inch alloy wheels and chrome exhaust tips with unique badging, as well as yellow fog lights to compliment its red paint job.
With 147.8 mph top speed achieved in 1998 at Tsukuba Circuit; it is classified by Guinness World Records as fastest production front wheel drive car ever made...at least on paper that is! So you might be wondering why is it not listed higher up on our list? Well, for starters, only 77 units were produced and secondly we could not find any evidence that anyone has managed to beat its record since then.
In fact even today you will be hard pressed to find another one around let alone someone who has pushed it past 150mph! Nevertheless, an impressive achievement from Honda nonetheless considering most cars from same era struggled to reach 100mph mark.
8) 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX STi Version VI (GC8/GF8) - 146.7 mph
As a limited-edition model, there aren’t many examples of it in existence and they rarely leave Japan. It was designed specifically for a speed record attempt in Australia and comes equipped with an EVO V-spec engine swap by Subaru specialists Prova. The car reaches 100km/h (62mph) in just 4.0 seconds and ends 0-160km/h (100mph) in 8.5 seconds! Its top speed was recorded at 146.7 mph (235km/h).
This isn’t so impressive when you consider that other current turbocharged vehicles can go much faster, but as a car that was purpose built for one thing – to go fast - few cars can beat it on paper.
The WRX STi Version VI is truly a unique example of what Japanese tuners can do when they put their minds to it. It has been featured in many videos online including its famous run from standstill to 160km/h (100mph) in less than 6 seconds.
It was only available for sale in 2002, which makes it hard to find now; but if you can get your hands on one, expect to pay upwards of $20k USD.
However don't expect any sort of luxury features or modern conveniences like power windows or AC because these were left out due to weight concerns and replaced with lighter weight options such as carbon fiber panels and Recaro seats. Because it's not technically street legal anywhere else besides Japan, there's no need for extra equipment like headlights or turn signals either!
9) 1994 Toyota Supra Turbo A80V Edition - 146.5 mph
This popular Supra was a limited edition that was released in 1994. The car featured a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine and is known for being one of, if not THE fastest Supra ever produced by Toyota. Since it is also considered to be one of the best Supras ever made, these cars command high prices today at auction: between $50,000 - $70,000 for base models and around $100,000 for top of line models.
1992 Nissan Skyline GT-R V Spec II (BNR32) - 143 mph: The R32 GT-R has been called one of the greatest sports cars ever built. It was introduced in 1989 and production continued until 2002 when it was replaced with an updated version.
During its run, there were several different versions of the R32 but all came equipped with a 2.6 liter twin turbocharged inline 6 cylinder engine that could produce 276 horsepower and 258 lb/ft torque. For such a powerful car, it had surprisingly good fuel economy for its time as well as handling capabilities that set new standards for performance coupes on both sides of the Pacific Ocean.
1995 Mazda RX-7 Type RS - 141 mph: The FD3S RX-7 Type RS was only available in Japan and is most famous for being featured in Initial D where it can be seen racing against a Honda NSX Type R.
The car features a 1.3 liter rotary engine which produces over 200 horsepower and 160 lb/ft torque which allows it to reach speeds of up to 141 miles per hour. 1991 Mitsubishi Galant VR4 AWD Turbo - 140 mph: This mid size sedan features AWD technology which makes it ideal for driving on slippery surfaces or inclement weather conditions like snow or rain.
10) 1993 Mazda RX-7 Type RZ (FD3S/FC3S)- 146.1 mph
The FD RX-7 is undoubtedly one of Japan’s greatest sports cars. With its high-revving rotary engine and lightweight body, it provided incredible acceleration in a small package that was still practical enough to be driven daily. In 1992, an example tested by Road & Track clocked 60 mph in 5.4 seconds and 100 mph in 13.5 seconds, with a top speed of 144 miles per hour at 10,000 rpm (this particular car had been modified from stock).
This almost matches my 2017 Honda Civic Type R’s full-throttle acceleration! The basic design was carried over unchanged through each generation of RX-7—all three available drivetrains featured a front mid-engine layout with rear-wheel drive and independent suspension all around.
The second-generation model even used Mazda’s own B6/B6D Wankel rotary engines as opposed to General Motors’ turbocharged F2C/F2G Renesis units.
The third-generation FD3S was only sold for two years before being replaced by a new model, but there were no major changes aside from updated styling and minor performance improvements.
Production ended in 2002 after more than 80,000 third-generation models were built; most of these were sold in America or other markets where they could not be legally driven on public roads due to emissions regulations.
Frequently Asked Question
What is the most powerful JDM car?
We all know about cars from Japan being fuel efficient and fast. Most people assume that JDM just means Japanese Domestic Market, but it actually stands for Japanese Domestic Marque—basically, it's an acronym for vehicles originally manufactured for sale in Japan.
The truth is that not all JDM cars are really made only for Japan. In fact, most of them aren't. We can say that they’re made to meet Japanese standards and requirements as any other vehicle in any other market would do.
The point here is that a good number of Japanese sportscars are insanely fast and fun to drive regardless of where you live. They're also usually reliable—another reason why people love these vehicles so much!
What is the best car for JDM?
There is no easy answer to that question, because there are many different categories of cars, including classics and new models. A Nissan Skyline GT-R would be among one of best choices for those looking for an older model, while a newer Honda Civic Type R is worth considering as well.
This list takes into account both older cars and newer models that have been manufactured since 2004. Check out our list of ten fastest JDM cars and see what you think!
What is the fastest JDM car 2021?
A lot of times when you think of fastest JDM cars, you think of Nissans or maybe Toyotas. But what about all of those other amazing Japanese car companies out there. How come they never get any credit for their speed.
The truth is that some Japanese companies have come out with some really fast cars over their history. That’s why we have put together a list to show people which ones we think are some of them.
Final Touch
Once you’ve assembled your list, don’t be tempted to rush out and buy every car on it. In fact, consider waiting a few years before taking your dream for a test drive—the tech behind most cars on auto show floors lags well behind what's available in showrooms or delivered to customers on test tracks.
Plus, if you think fuel economy is important now, just wait until you're dropping $80 to fill up your Camry Hybrid. Ten years from now, high-mpg gas guzzlers will cost less than their low-mpg alternatives.
Top 10 JDM Cars of 2022
Many of you know that JDM cars, Japanese Domestic Market cars, are some of the best models on the road today. Models such as the Subaru Impreza WRX and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution are world-renowned for their combination of performance and affordability.
Honda S660
Hitting dealerships in 2020, Honda’s S660 concept is a rear-wheel drive sports car that looks like a miniature NSX. Featuring gullwing doors, it seats two passengers and has trunk space for small bags. Powered by a 660cc three-cylinder engine with 53 horsepower, it gets from 0 to 60 mph in 8 seconds, returning fuel economy rated at 59 mpg. This makes it ideal for urban driving in congested areas where gas prices are high. However, beware; insurance rates will be steep due to its low safety ratings.
Tokyo Auto Salon Car Showcars
The Tokyo Auto Salon, or TAS for short, is a show held in Japan every winter (January) by Car Magazine and hosted at Makuhari Messe. It’s a showcase for crazy tuning shops and serious car enthusiasts alike who love to go all out. Over 300 cars are always on display, ranging from daily drivers that are seriously customized to purpose-built show cars that are simply breathtaking. It’s also worth noting that while you can see some full-on fender work here, other parts of Japan have an even more extreme body styling culture...but we won’t get into that right now! Let’s take a look at our top ten favourite showcars from 2017!
Honda E Prototype
We’ve already seen Honda jettison its Earth Dreams motors for more traditional (and powerful) turbocharging in vehicles like the Civic Type R and Accord. We expect that trend to continue. And with 2021 just around the corner, it doesn’t take a crystal ball to predict that with its next flagship vehicle, Honda will bring back an H at the front of its model name—signaling true high-performance aspirations. The new E Prototype is proof Honda has been working on such a machine. Although we haven’t heard any rumors about what engine might be under its hood or how much power it might make, we do know it will be incredibly quick and very fun to drive.
Nissan IMx Concept 2020
According to a prediction by Nissan's Head of Global Design, Shiro Nakamura, in 2020 we will see a fairly complete autonomous car. After that year, most cars will be fully autonomous and entirely driverless. Based on our predictions, in just over three years from now we could see vehicles that feature zero-emission electric motors with auto-driving systems and are capable of providing fast acceleration at low cost (just like Nissan’s IMx concept). If Nakamura is right about these expectations for future vehicle design and performance, it may well have a serious impact on how car lovers plan their purchases for years to come.
Subaru Viziv Performance
The Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV is one of the coolest concept cars to come out in years. It’s also a solid indicator that Mitsubishi isn’t going anywhere and has a lot more surprises up its sleeve. The Concept XR-PHEV comes with all-wheel drive, two electric motors, and plenty of hydrogen fuel storage onboard, which means it can travel up to 500 miles on pure electricity alone! It looks just as good as it drives too. Add in some bold colors that may or may not have been inspired by Lamborghini’s Countach—and you have a car worth waiting for!
Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV EV Sports Car
In a world where hybrid vehicles are becoming more common, Mitsubishi is going all in on electric power. The Japanese company has unveiled its Concept XR-PHEV at Tokyo Auto Salon 2017, and it’s just as beautiful as you might imagine. Measuring 184 inches long with a wheelbase that stretches to 106 inches, it looks every bit like a sports car should—even if there isn’t an internal combustion engine under that bonnet. Instead, there’s a 165-kW electric motor powering two rear wheels, which is mated to a single-speed transmission sending power exclusively to those wheels.
Subaru Viziv Performance STI
Our list starts off with a bang, and by bang we mean boom. The brand new Subaru Viziv Performance STI takes all that is good about Subaru’s race-winning design and translates it into a road-going vehicle. With a carbon fiber body, active aerodynamics and an underfloor turbocharger setup, power levels are rumored to be close to 1,500 horsepower – yes, you read that right! This will easily dethrone Nissan’s GT-R as king of all performance cars in four years time.
Mazda Pininfarina Gran Luce Futurista Concept
The Pininfarina Gran Luce Futurista concept, unveiled at last year’s Turin Motor Show, has just been announced as a production car by Mazda and Pininfarina. Featuring a lighter, more fuel-efficient Skyactiv chassis and running gear mated to a midship electric motor, it promises improved performance while still remaining environmentally friendly. You can read more about it here . Although plans for international sales have not yet been revealed, we expect them to be revealed in due course.
Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign
In 2019, Nissan will celebrate 50 years since its first GT-R debuted in 1969. As a celebration and thank you to fans for their loyalty, Nissan has partnered with Italdesign (the design firm responsible for creating iconic vehicles like the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Mercedes-Benz SLK) to create a special edition version of its latest R35 GT-R supercar.
Honda Civic Type R
The all-new Honda Civic Type R should be a beast of a machine when it comes out in 2022. We don’t have any details on what kind of engine it will use, but we do know that it will be able to go zero to 60 in less than four seconds. We also know that there will only be 500 models made, so you might want to start saving up your money now if you want one! All joking aside, though, I expect that car lovers everywhere are going to line up for months for a chance at owning one and then drive them nonstop once they get their hands on them.
